END OF THE YEAR AGAIN
December 24
Happy Holidays to you all! Best wishes for 2008!
HEROS
December 02
Some Global Guardians-style heros for this week's issue of Veja,
plenty of Robin Hood pages and, if you live in Brazil, a reminder:
the Brazilian Comic Awards 2007 has started, which is an open vote
so I'm in the running in the Best Issue
(for Shem Ha-Mephorash)
and Best Artist categories. Marcela Godoy is also up for Best Writer.
Send an e-mail to: angeloagostini@bigorna.net with your vote until
the 5th January 2008 or see here
for more information.
LAST MONTH
November 07
The International Comic Festival was great fun, with plenty of artists, exhibitions and talks. Great rundown at
Blog
dos Quadrinhos.
The talk at Fnac was also a blast… Renato and Greg had the superhero market cornered,
so I gave what information I could about the current British scene -
Praxis, Markosia and
The V were mentioned.
THIS MONTH
October 15
I'll be at Fnac Pinheiros
on the 27th, at 20h, taking part in an open-to-the-public talk
with Renato Guedes and Greg Tocchini about "Drawing for the North-American Market".
And a couple more "storyboards" for Folha de São Paulo.
AS TIME GOES BY…
October 01
The Brazilian International Comics Festival,
that happens every two years in Belo Horizonte,
will be from October 16th until the 21st. I'll be there, and I wrote a one-page article about it
for this month's issue of Galileu.
It looks promising as Eduardo Risso, Carlos Sampayo and maybe Ethan Van Sciver will attend,
alongside many Brazilian artists such as Renato Guedes and Julio Shimamoto, with exhibitions
about Nouvelle Manga, El Fierro and 100 artists celebrating
Oscar Niemeyer's 100th birthday -
to which I contributed a piece.
In September I did some last-minute illustrations about the latest political scandal
for Brazil's best-selling newspaper, Folha de São Paulo, and then two pages
of art for a history magazine, about the 90-year old assassination
of the Romanovs during the Russian Revolution.
Also finished the first 22 pages of Robin Hood and got a year older…
SHERWOOD FOREST BECONS
September 05
So, Robin Hood will be my main occupation for the rest of the year.
I'll still be working on other projects and illustrations and teaching,
but Sherwood will be taking up most of my days - and nights!
Apart from that, a spread for RAW PLAY,
and some covers.
Plus a couple of Robin Hood sketches.
PLACES TO BE
August 08
I'll be giving a talk tomorrow with Marcela Godoy about the Golem,
at the CJB, in Rio de Janeiro.
On the 19th I'll be in Belo Horizonte giving a comic art workshop,
due to a fantastic touring art exhibition.
And a new comic art class has started
last week at Quanta, on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
PLENTY TO DO
August 06
I wrote a small article about the London Cartoon Museum
for this month's Galileu - a Brazilian science magazine -
and did a few editorial illustrations
including quite a few for Veja - Brazil's
best selling news weekly - and also playing card games.
Freelancing: every week different from the next…
BIO UPDATE
June 24
Small update to the bio page, and now the little flag in the top right corner leads to a bio in
Portuguese. Slightly larger than the English version, since it also covers what I get up to in Brazil...
ART UPDATE
June 08
Starship Troopers: Damaged Justice #3 was out last month,
and #4 should be in stores now.
I've done a few pages for Bill Rees' next graphic novel, RAW PLAY.
Plus some sketches.
BACK FROM EUROPE!
May 23
Got back last week. All in all, a great six weeks. Saw family, friends and went to the
Bristol Expo.
Saw plenty of Gaudi in Spain (found Starship Troopers: Blaze of Glory in Spanish at a great comic shop
called Continuará near the Gothic quarter), finished Starship Troopers: Damaged Justice #4 in Cornwall
and had dinner in Paris on a pathway next to the Seine with the missus as the sun set behind Notre Dame.
Had drinks with Tony Lee in Nottingham - I spent a few days there doing research for our
Robin Hood graphic novel - and Bristol Expo was great, just like the last few years.
Met some great artists, new and established, did plenty of sketches at the
Markosia booth,
sold comics, artwork, showed the Robin Hood pages to everyone who cared to gander.
More news from Bristol from
Rich Johnston,
Tony Lee
and David Hine.
And the Golem has had a couple more
positive
reviews
while I was away!
NEWS, REVIEWS AND INTERVIEWS
March 30
The Golem has had some very good reviews,
here and
here,
and also in the Brazilian version of Wizard Magazine (now called Wizmania) #42, on the stands now (all in Portuguese).
And an interview about Starship Troopers is up at the Pulse today.
In future news, I'll be attending the Bristol Comic Expo in the UK, on the 12th and 13th of May.
SPARTANS!
March 09
The Golem launch was a success, thanks for all who went, bought, sent e-mails and/or put the news
on websites and blogs, it was much appreciated.
I did an illustration about the Spartans and the battle of Thermopylae for a history magazine,
as Frank Miller's 300 is due in cinemas this month.
And this week wrapped up issue 3 of Starship Troopers: Damaged Justice -
here are some
pages, colours by
Weberson Santiago.
MAGAZINES
February 19
Non-commissioned stuff for a couple of magazines this month: I was asked about my experience teaching comic art for an article
about "Careers in Comics" (you can read it online in Portuguese) and there is a page of mine in the gallery section
of ImagineFX #15, on newsstands in the UK for a month.
BACK IN THE TRENCHES
February 02 2007
As seen at All The Rage,
I'm on art duties for Starship Troopers: Damaged Justice issues 3 and 4, written by
Tony Lee, published by
Markosia.
Teaching a Heroes and Villians Drawing Class at São Paulo's Comic Library -
Gibiteca Henfil - every Thursday in February.
The drawing classes at Quanta start this Saturday.
And self-publishing with Marcela Godoy our short graphic novel
about the Golem, with a launch at Quanta on Friday 23rd - if you want to know what it looks like, here is a 8-page
preview in English and
Portuguese.
